THE SITUATION

On March 6, 2014, Uber and Lyft began operations in Madison in violation of city ordinances. Since then, Uber and Lyft have continued to defraud the public and their own drivers throughout the city with fraudulent service term agreements and invalid insurance coverage.

Lyft’s service term agreement. These terms invalidate insurance unless the driver buys expensive coverage. Yet Lyft does not REQUIRE them to buy added coverage to drive.

Uber and Lyft have continued in Madison to establish a status quo that doesn’t meet the city’s needs and is, quite simply, not in the best interest of Madison residents. City officials and LEGAL cab and rideshare companies, however, remain dedicated to maintaining common sense regulations that promote public safety, fair competition and maintain safe and LEGAL service to ALL Madison consumers.

With the aid of Koch Ind’s Lobbying front AFP, Uber has launched a campaign to urge Madison law makers to enact legislation.

This legislation would allow Taxi companies and Rideshare companies alike to defraud customers with false insurance claims, discriminate against customers based on age, disability and race and allow fraudulent practices like ‘surge pricing’ to become common place with all taxi and rideshare companies throughout Madison and potentially state wide.

The bottom line is this: Drivers deserve an opportunity to earn a living and Madisonians deserve safe, EQUAL, INSURED and hassle-free transportation options.

Like hundreds of other cities around the world, Madison is already beginning to see the disaster that companies like Uber and Lyft bring to communities.

Discrimination, selective service hours, longer wait times, unavailable service hours and Drivers making little to no income for the majority of their hours driving are now becoming common place in Madison.

Uber and lyft refuse service to more than 80% of Madison’s geographic area and for more and more time through out each day, service to poorer areas of Madison is diminishing as Uber and Lyft create a selective market dedicated to only a few areas of the city, for a few hours of the day.

With absolutely no real insurance coverage, and drivers who are not properly trained, registered, monitored or permitted to drive as LEGAL Taxi and rideshare drivers, Uber and Lyft threaten communities.

Uber and Lyft have increased the number of drivers for hire on Madison streets, who are more likely to be intoxicated and cause uninsured wrecks than drivers with proper permits, live dispatch monitoring and actual insurance coverage.
